El presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador hizo el compromiso de que no buscará reelegirse en el cargo y dijo que incluso firmará un documento para que quede constancia de que se mantendrá, si así "lo decide el pueblo", por seis años, hasta que concluya su mandato en 2024.

"El lunes voy firmar aquí un compromiso. Tengo palabra, el objetivo más importante en mi vida es mi honestidad, pero de todas formas voy a hacer ese compromiso. Voy a decir que soy partidario de la democracia, que estoy de acuerdo con la máxima del sufragio efectivo, no reelección". Andrés Manuel López Obrador, presidente de México

En conferencia matutina, el mandatario descartó que la iniciativa para incluir la revocación del mandato y la consulta popular en la Constitución represente la vía para una posible extensión de su mandato o un "ensayo de reelección" presidencial, como señalaron legisladores de oposición.
